A Walk In My Shoes...
Walk with me...
Entry for October 29, 2008 - More Snow
photo

After the drive from Hell yesterday...coming back to NY from Philly...I started my commute to work this morning by driving around fallen trees that with leaves still on...could not handle the extra weight of the heavy, wet snow.

When it snows in October I get a little chuckle and always remember that it snowed on my wedding day in October back in '89. It was one of many bad omens that could have swayed me away from taking the vows that day. We picked up our marriage license on October 13, 1989...the day of the famous "mini-crash" on Wall Street. The court house we got the license from was located on Wall Street. The dow fell 190 points that day...a 6.9% drop to 2569...and arguably was the start of the collapse of the junk bond market. Our honeymoon was scheduled that year for the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis...but they were wiped out by Hurricane Hugo earlier in the year. Our second choice for our honeymoon was San Fran and then up to wine country...but that summer the massive earthquake hit San Fran and deleted that city from places we wanted to visit. Are you getting the picture???

Even with all those bad omens...we managed to get married and stay together for 19 years. So when it snows in October...it may be early...and it may take down some weak trees...but the strong trees...much like my marriage...seem to handle the extra weight of the world...so I just smile and count my blessings.
