I was so sick about the election that I needed a small vacation...so my wife and I took off for NYC for a day. We left after dropping the kids off at school and arrived at the Harvard Club in the early afternoon. Our first destination after checking into the club was Tiffany's where my wife exchanged the anniversary gift I bought her for something else ( a nice ring). We had dinner reservations at the Grammercy Tavern at 8 PM...but we felt we needed a bit of food...so we headed downtown for late lunch and a glass of wine at Balthazar on Spring Street...a favorite bistro of ours. We shared a bottle of Sancerre to wash down a bowl of mussels and french fries...great snack!!! We then shopped around SOHO for a bit and finally made our way back to the club to get ready for dinner.
Dinner at the Gramercy Tavern was top shelf. We had a great meal...the appetizer in the picture was Hamachi tuna (raw) and it was great. This tuna is a rare farm raised variety as oppossed to the normal wild ones that are served...and only three of these fish are imported into the United States each week. We shared a nice bottle of Morey-St.-Denis with our main entrees...I had a fantastic venison dish. For dessert we went all out and ordered an $85 glass of 1995 Y'Quem...a sweet dessert wine. Awful pricey...but it was far less than we had spent in Tiffany's earlier in the day. All the food and the service at the Gramercy Tavern was top shelf and we will definitely visit again next time we are in New York.
