We had such a fun time yesterday in Manhattan that we decided to stay another day. After a nice breakfast at the Harvard Club and taking care of some business on the phone...we put on our walking shoes and headed out for the day. Our first destination was Central Park...where the trees still had the wonderful colors of fall. It was raining a bit...but it did not detract from the park's beauty. We walked and walked and walked through the park and then went to the Frick museum and finally found ourselves stopped for lunch at a French bistro on Madison Ave called La Goulue. We shared a bean salad and a plate of raw tuna...washed down with a half bottle of Chablis. Oh...I forgot the french fries. And then we decided we were on vacation and should have dessert. So we ordered the wonderful dish above and a glass of sauternes. The dessert was great...but the sauternes was not match for the Y'Quem we had the night before.
After lunch we wandered around a bit more and then took ourselves to the Ed Sullivan theater to stand in line for possible last minute tickets to see David Letterman that night. Wouldn't you know it...we were third and fourth in line...and they only had two seats unused...so the folks in front of us got in and we didn't. A wasted hour standing in line. After that we went to a shop that Leanne wanted to spend some time in and while she was there I watched the human circus of ice skaters at Rockefeller Plaza. After that we headed back to the club to change and then headed down to Houston street to catch a French film...called I've Loved You So Long. My wife is the one that wanted to see it...and I would have rather watched something else...but as it turned out...she fell asleep a few times...and I ended up really enjoying the film. Kristin Scott Thomas did a great job and I recommend the film to anyone that does not mind reading subtitles (unless of course you understand French). After the film we headed back to the club...the restaurant was closed...so we got a quick bite to eat at the Greek restaurant next to the club...I forget the name..and just as well...since it sucked.
