A Walk In My Shoes...
Walk with me...
Entry for November 29,2008 David Byrne Concert

Tonight my wife and I took our two sons to see their first rock concert...David Byrne (former Talking Head)...and we all had a great time. The show turned out to be as much performance art as it was a music concert with the entire band dressed in white as well as three dancers that followed a magical choreographed script. It was neat to see all 11 people on stage dancing around in synch. My kids really enjoyed it and commented about how many old hippies were in the crowd. I had to laugh at that...they were right. They didn't ask me about the strange smell in the air at times...I wondered whether it was the right thing to do to point out what that smell was...but I decided not to. Many years ago, my uncle, now one of those old hippies...sent me a comic strip from Shoe...where young Schuyler asks Cosmo if smoking pot is bad for your health...Cosmo replys "yes...it can cause your body to be thrown in jail". Anyway...the concert was great and I would recommend Byrne's new album...especially the cut Strange Overtone...my new favorite song that I can't get out of my head no matter how hard I try.

As if going to the concert after spending the early morning hunting and the afternoon at my daughter's perfomance of the Nutcracker wasn't enoough to tire me out...we attended a party at our friend's house after the the concert. We dropped the boys off at home (their grandmother was up for the weekend as well) and then headed off to the party. I had to chuckle as we headed down the driveway and I noticed it was almost 11 PM...in my younger days heading out at 11 PM would seem somewhat normal...but these days...it seemed more like a bad idea. We got to the party...sober...a tough state to be in when everyone else there has been drinking for the past 5 hours...but had a drink (the host opened up a really nice bottle of Mollydooker to share with me) and then called it a night. I wanted to get home so I could get up early and hunt again in the morning...the early morning...God this pace is killing me.
