Entry for January 22, 2009 - Kinder, Gentler...You

Have you noticed it? Two days into a new President and a lot of people just seem to be a whole lot nicer. Aspirations are high for a lot of things...a better economy for one...and perhaps even a kinder, gentler you. Race relations should get better, right. The good Reverend during the swearing in...what did he say...he was confident now that the black man would not be told to get back, the brown man wouldn't be held down, the yellow man would be mellow man, the red man could now get ahead man. Wow. Nothing like getting slapped for being white. And those inaugural balls...the rappers (famous ones at that), the ones that had VIP seats at the inaugural...those same guys that loudly blasted the white man at the ball...up with black, down with white. Terrific. We will chalk that up as just letting off some steam...caught up in the revelry of the occasion. I really have noticed folks being a bit nicer the past two days and I do have aspirations that it will continue. While the President struggles to get things right...a redo on the swearing in was cool...and a fumble of the ball as he swore in hisweared house staff. Let's hear it for the leaiftng curve. Don't get me wrong...he is my President too...and I want him to succeed. I want the economy to improve, I want us to be better stewards of the taxpayer money...and better stewards of how we promote the American ideal around the world. It is just fun to see him be human in these first couple of days...because he is. I worry about race relations in our future. Will any white man now ever be good enough for the black population? If Obama fails miserablyObamaresident...will any Black man ever be good enough to try as President again? Those folks that tend to be centrists will be OK with whatever happens...they always are...and they are the majority of folks out there. It is the extremes on both sides that we have to worry about. Enough of that though. I have been away in Texas for the past week...hunting for hogs. That is where I saw this Christian center and took this photo. Another sign of a kinder, gentler you. Bikers welcome!
