Entry for March 09, 2009 In Your Face

I received an email a few weeks ago from a friend that asked me to be his friend on facebook. If you have not used the site or heard of it...it is this mass bulletin board where people post all kinds of things for their friends to see. I signed up for facebook about 6 month ago in an attempt to find my old college room mate. I did find him and we got together late last year while I was on a business trip out West. I had not used the site since...and then I received this friend request. I decided what the hell and went ahead and agreed to be his friend. The two of us don't write much on the site...so there was little activity. Then I received another friend request from my son...who also has a page...and then another friend request from an old high school buddy...and then the requests started coming in on almost a daily basis. A lot of old high school friends are on this...they post oictures of their dogs...tell folks that they are eating breakfast now or grabbing a beer. I just feel like it is all just too much information. I should talk...I post a lot of stuff on this blog that no one should care about. This is really just an online diary for me...I can print all these entries out and make a book...that keeps track of the life and times of Eric Burrell...might be fun for me to look at with the kids in 20 years. So again...I really don't know what to make of this Facebook thing. I am thinking about using it a a forum to express all the radical ultra-conservative ideas I have about how society should be governed...maybe a place to list all the wines I am drinking...you know...a booze diary...evidence to be used against me some day as proof that I drink too much wine and am therefore a bad person. A girl sent me a request to be her friend the other day...I didn't know her...but she said she knew one of my friends and used to date him...so I called the friend and asked him if he knew her...he said run away from her as fast as I could...because she was a STALKER...imagine that...my first cyber stalker. It is a very confusing site...people talking all the time...everybody wants to tell you what they are doing...I even received a BEST friend request...going to stay away from that one too...it came from a guy...love him dearly...but at my age it seems a little strange to be calling someone my bestest friend. No old girlfriends have shown up on Facebook yet...that will be interesting...when one of them writes a "remember when we..." and my wife reads it...oh boy. So I guess the long and the short of it is that I will probably play around with Facebook for a while...see who else wants to stalk me...and I will keep adding to this blog...the history of whatever.
