Entry for March 10, 2009 - Art...and the collection of...

I love to paint...and I am incredibly unskilled at it. Notice that I didn't say I was a bad painter...just unskilled. I know what I want to see on the canvas...I just have a hard time getting that vision from my head to be expressed in proper fashion via paint and brush. I was in Portland, ME a few weeks ago and saw the above painting hanging on the wall of a local tavern. I am not sure why I liked it...it just stood out from all the other paintings. There is just something about all the symbolism in the painting that cracks me up. The artist's name is Seth Adams...I left my business card with the bartender and told her to have the artist call me. He called one night...drunk as a skunk and slurring all his words...wanted to know if I...the CEO of a company in NY...really wanted to buy one of his paintings? I told him that I did and that now wasn't a good time to talk. So a few days later we had a sober conversation and I purchased this fine painting. It sits out in the hallway opposite the door into my office at work...larger than life iteself...or really to the point. I have the painting at my office because I am sure my wife would veto this painting going up anywhere in our home.
